PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Groundwater Treatment System
- Construction and Installation
- Soil Vapor Extraction Feasibility Testing
Project scope included providing a fully enclosed, self-contained and PLC controlled automatic 40 gallon per minute (gpm)
water treatment system for a pipeline release site along the I-80 in northern California. The treatment system components
include four 1,000-pound liquid phase carbon vessels and associated gauges and piping. Electrical power for the treatment
system is provided by an 18 KW diesel powered electrical generator. The impacted water is stored in a 20,000-gallon storage
tank prior to treatment. A pressure transducer indicates the low/low, low, high and high/high water levels in the tank.
Redundant water level alarms are provided by capacitance sensors in the storage tank and the secondary containment.
Treated water is discharged into an adjacent runoff channel. Northstar currently supervises the generator service and
repair technician for the site.
Northstar conducted an SVE pilot test on impacted soils adjacent to the release site. The goal of the pilot test and
continued SVE system operation was to extract hydrocarbons from impacted soil during the dry season in an effort to reduce
potential water impacts during the wet season. Total contract value is approximately $118,000.
