PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
- Three 500 scfm thermal oxidizers
- SVE feasibility testing
- Northstar 500 scfm portable oxidizer
- Weekly O&M and equipment optimization
- Detailed remediation reporting
- System modifications
- Annual maintenance inspections
- Coordination with terminal operations
Project scope included the delivery, installation, startup and ongoing operations and maintenance (O&M) of three 500
standard cubic feet per minute (scfm) capacity soil vapor extraction (SVE) thermal oxidizers. The SVE units currently
treat petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soils at the site in three separate locations. The O&M activities include but are
not limited to weekly collection of treatment system data including operating temperature, system flow rate, inlet and
outlet hydrocarbon concentrations, and supplemental fuel consumption. Individual well hydrocarbon concentrations are
collected once per month. Adjustments to the well field are made as required in order to maximize the extracted hydrocarbon
rates. Northstar staff collected monthly laboratory samples to verify compliance with operating permits.
System modifications included installation of radio frequency transmitters for remote shut-down of systems by terminal
operating personnel in the event of any alarm condition at the terminal. Northstar has provided services at this terminal
for approximately 5 years, has been an urgent responder to new releases with portable remediation equipment, and has provided
multiple events of feasibility testing to assess conditions for a permanent system.
